About Jodi Petersen
Energy • Sound • Embodiment
My Work Has Evolved Because I Have.
I didn't set out to build a career in energy work, sound or consciousness. I began in health and fitness.
For much of my earlier life, wellbeing meant doing more—working harder, exercising harder, eating better, staying productive and continually striving toward the next version of myself.
Then my body changed the direction of my life.
A significant health crisis left me unable to live the way I once had. The strength, energy and discipline I had relied upon were no longer enough. I was forced to slow down, listen differently and reconsider much of what I believed about health.
What initially felt like my body failing me eventually became an invitation to develop a different relationship with it.
That experience began a journey that continues to shape everything I teach today.
From Managing the Body to Listening to It
My search for healing took me through nutrition, fitness, behavior change, meditation, mindfulness, nervous system awareness, energy medicine, Reiki, yoga, Qigong, breathwork, sound healing, somatic practices and spiritual exploration.
I studied.
I experimented.
I listened.
And, perhaps most importantly, I learned that no single practitioner, modality or framework held every answer.
Different approaches offered different maps. Some helped me understand my physical body. Others helped me recognize emotional patterns. Some gave me language for energy and consciousness. Others helped me become quiet enough to notice what I was actually experiencing.
Over time, the question changed from:
"What will fix me?"
to:
"What is my system communicating, and how can I become a more conscious participant in my own wellbeing?"
That shift changed everything.
Optimal Vitality Became Something Different
When I created Optimal Vitality, I thought vitality was something we could achieve by discovering the right combination of practices.
My understanding is different now.
I don't believe optimal vitality means remaining energetic, positive, productive or perfectly balanced all the time.
We're human.
Our bodies change.
Our circumstances change.
We experience stress, illness, transition, grief, joy, expansion and contraction. To me, vitality has become less about maintaining an ideal state and more about developing the awareness and resources to remain in relationship with ourselves as life changes.
Can I recognize when I'm becoming depleted?
Can I hear a boundary before my body has to scream it?
Can I allow myself to rest without believing I've failed?
Can I distinguish fear from intuition?
Can I recognize what restores me?
Can I remain open to what I don't yet understand?
Can I come back to myself?
This is what Optimal Vitality means to me now.
Not perfection.
Relationship. Responsiveness. Coherence.
Life Continued to Deepen
the Work
My health journey opened the door.
Life continued the education.
Motherhood has taught me that loving someone doesn't mean controlling their path.
Relationships have taught me about boundaries, reciprocity and the difference between helping and over-responsibility.
Loss and grief have taught me that healing doesn't always mean making pain disappear.
Sometimes healing means developing the capacity to remain present with what is real.
Sometimes there isn't something to fix.
There is something to feel.
Something to integrate.
Something to release.
Something to learn.
Or simply something that needs enough space to move through us in its own time.
Those experiences have made me less interested in presenting myself as someone who has the answers for another person.
They've made me more interested in helping people develop a deeper relationship with their own.
From Practitioner to Facilitator
This distinction has become central to my work.
I don't see healing as something I perform on another person.
Whether I'm working individually through energy and sound, leading a room through Qigong, facilitating a sound journey or teaching practitioners, my intention is to create conditions that support greater awareness, regulation, connection and coherence.
I bring experience.
I bring training.
I bring tools.
I bring intuition
I bring presence.
But you bring the most important information of all: your lived experience.
Your body.
Your history.
Your responses.
Your intentions.
Your own inner knowing.
That means we can work together without either of us needing to pretend we know everything.
We can listen.
We can notice.
